In reading Royally Suited: Harry and Meghan in their own words by Phil Dampier, you realise just how perfect these soon-to-be newlyweds are for each other.
Divided into two sections, one for Prince Harry and one for Meghan Markle, Dampier has plucked quotes that highlight each person’s feelings on family, work, charity, and love – and you find several prescient selections.
For example, at the Invictus Games in Orlando, Florida in May 2016, a month before he met Meghan, Prince Harry said: “At the moment my focus is very much on work, but if someone slips into my life then that’s absolutely fantastic.”
Harry and Meghan, we now know, were set up on a blind date by a mutual friend in June that year. On her birthday that August, she wrote on The Tig, her former blog, “I have to say that when I close my eyes and think of what I wish for, I come up with a blank. A big old happy blank.”
Talking about their mothers, Prince Harry and Meghan both speak equally of their love and admiration for the women – “She had more guts than anyone,” said Prince Harry, and “We can have so much fun together and yet I’ll still find so much solace in her support,” said Meghan.
Speaking about charity work and giving back, Prince Harry once said, “Once you understand the privileged position that you are in you then get to spend the rest of your life earning that privilege and giving back and also gaining the trust and respect of the general public and then using that position for good.”
Meghan, speaking a while ago but giving great foreshadowing to her future as a member of the Royal Family, said: “I’ve never wanted to be a lady who lunches; I’ve always wanted to be a woman who works.”
Speaking about their love: “I know that at the end of the day, she chooses me, and I choose her. And therefore, whatever we have to tackle together, or individually, it’ll always be us together as a team,” Prince Harry told the world in his engagement interview.
“We’re two people who are really happy and in love… Personally, I love a great love story,” Meghan said in the October 2017 issue of Vanity Fair.
