Meghan confirms she wasn’t paid for Oprah interview

The Duchess of Sussex has confirmed that neither she nor Prince Harry was paid for speaking to Oprah Winfrey in an interview that has made headlines around the world.

Meghan revealed there was no financial recompense for the chat which aired in the US late on March 7th 2021 and which will be broadcast in full in the UK on ITV1 on March 8th.

At the start of the sit down chat, Oprah tackled the topic of money with The Duchess. The TV star said ”you don’t know what I’m going to ask, and there is no subject that is off limits. And you are not getting paid for this interview. All of that’s correct?”

The Duchess of Sussex replies ”all of that is correct.”

In the interview that followed, Meghan spoke to Oprah about how her mental health had suffered during her time in the Royal Family and said that she had contemplated suicide. She also said that concerns were raised about how dark the skin of her unborn child would be while she was expecting Archie. And she revealed that her wedding to Prince Harry, on May 19th 2018, was ”for the world” as the couple had actually married in a private service led by the Archbishop of Canterbury three days earlier.

The Duke of Sussex spoke of his relationship with his father, saying that the Prince of Wales had stopped taking his calls after the couple’s decision to step away from life as senior royals was announced. And he told Oprah ”I feel really let down.”
