The Duchess of Sussex gives birth to a girl – Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor

The Duchess of Sussex has given birth to a daughter.

Prince Harry and Meghan have named the child Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.

The baby girl will be known as ‘Lili’ for short.

Both mother and child are healthy and well.

The Duchess gave birth on Friday morning in a hospital in Santa Barbara, California.

The inspiration behind the name is clear, with Lilibet being a nickname for The Queen by her parents and Prince Philip.

Diana is an obvious tribute to Prince Harry’s mother, Diana, Princess of Wales.

Lilibet is The Queen’s 11th great-grandchild and is eighth in line to the throne.

In a statement, the Duchess said: “On June 4th, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lili.

“She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we’ve felt from across the globe.

“Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family.”
