State Opening of Parliament scheduled for Queen Camilla’s birthday

The State Opening of Parliament will take place on the birthday of Queen Camilla.

The UK goes to the polls on July 4th 2024 after Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, asked Charles III to dissolve parliament and The King gave his assent.

It means a new administration should take shape on July 5th 2024 and the new parliament will meet for the first time on July 9th 2024.

The State Opening of Parliament is set for July 17th 2024 – the day that Her Majesty celebrates her 77th birthday.

It is expected that Queen Camilla will accompany King Charles to the State Opening.

Even if The King decided not to attend and to send Counsellors of State in his place, it is likely that The Queen would be present as she is one of the counsellors.

However, if there is no concrete result from the elections and negotiations continue over who will form the next government, the State Opening will be postponed.
