Red, white, and blue flowers and a new anthem for the Service of Thanksgiving

Although she will not be attending due to mobility issues, The Service of Thanksgiving to mark The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee has several elements that celebrate her reign.

The Master of The Queen’s Music, Judith Weir CBE, has composed a new piece of music for the Platinum Jubilee. It is based on the third chapter of The Book of Proverbs and is called By Wisdom. The Book of Proverbs is sometimes ascribed to Solomon, though is considered to general advice. This is the first public performance of the piece.

Weir, a classical composer, was appointed to the position in 2014.

The significance of the occasion will also be represented in the floral arrangements.

The flowers at St Paul’s Cathedral are going to be in shades of red, white, and blue, in honour of the Jubilee. Several popular flowers will be used, including snapdragons, gerbera daisies, carnations, sea holly, and lisianthus.

The flowers have been arranged by the Church of England Flower Arrangers Association.

The Association was formed in Liverpool in 1981 to encourage support those who tend flowers in churches.
