Theresa May will travel to Buckingham Palace this afternoon to ask The Queen for permission to form a government alongside the Democratic Unionist Party.
Mrs May will inform Her Majesty that alongside the Northern Irish party led by Arlene Foster, the Conservative Party can command a majority in the House of Commons and can, therefore, stay on as Prime Minister.
If The Queen accepts Mrs May’s proposition, it will give the Prime Minister a short burst of life, although the Conservative/DUP partnership is not expected to last for more than a year.
This is because even with the DUP’s 10 MP’s, the government will only just have a majority and there will still be major differences on both sides.
This means a General Election is still likely to occur in 2018, and Mrs May’s Premiership might not even last until then with pressure mounting on both sides.
Royal Central will bring you full coverage of The Queen’s meeting with Theresa May from midday on Twitter.
Your Majesty, please do not let Theresa May form a new government. She has proved her way of running our country will not work. We do not need her self important ways of leadership. Yours faithfully.
I’m not familiar with the rules over there, does the Queen have the actual authority to dismiss a Prime Minister?
yes
Appointing the Prime Minister – The Queen is
responsible for appointing the Prime Minister after a general election
or a resignation, in a General Election The Queen will appoint the
candidate who is likely to have the most support of the House of
Commons. In the event of a resignation, The Queen listens to advice on
who should be appointed as their successor.
In reality she has no power though. It’s the same with ratifying bills in to law. She could theoretically refuse but if she did the monarchy would end. If it was found that she interfered people would riot. She just acts out of tradition as a symbol but has no real power
In realty, it is written into their laws that she does. I think that was the question.
It’s a real power ,and, the most important of all : netrality
Isn’t it amazing how ordinary people, if they utterly fail in their jobs, immediately get the order of the boot, but these arrogant conceited cretins carry on as if nothing has happened.
I wonder if she is just a puppet who was specifically employed to wreck Brexit?
I would like to see a brexit but I’m afraid this lot will muck it up. They are constantly calling elections to see what the public want but they neglect to realize that they are elected democratically so that we don’t have to make every single decision. This is because Brussels has been running the UK for so long these people don’t know how to lead anymore.
In reality she has absolutely no power though. If it was found that she interfered people would riot. She just acts out of tradition as a symbol but has no real power
