Queen Elizabeth II to be buried next to Prince Philip – and her beloved parents

Queen Elizabeth II will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, parents and sister in a private ceremony.

Her Late Majesty will be interred in the King George VI Memorial Chapel in the early evening of September 19th 2022, following her State Funeral.

Prince Philip will also be laid to rest beside her. Following his funeral in April 2021, the coffin of His Royal Highness was placed in the Royal Vault beneath St. George’s Chapel, Windsor. It was always intended as a temporary resting place. The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh always planned to be buried together.

Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip will be interred next to her parents, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother in the little side chapel at St. George’s which bears the name of Her Late Majesty’s father. Also buried there are the ashes of Her Late Majesty’s sister, Princess Margaret Rose. It means that ‘Us Four’ as George VI always called his family will be reunited, along with the prince who became a part of the group on his marriage in 1947.

The burial will come at the end of a day of ceremonial which will see over 200 world leaders attend the State Funeral at Westminster Abbey. Her Late Majesty’s coffin will be taken from Westminster Hall at 10.44am for the short procession to Westminster Abbey. It will be carried on the State Gun Carriage, first used for the funeral of Queen Victoria.

The service will start at 11am. There will be a two minute silence at 11.55am.

The coffin of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will be taken in procession to Wellington Arch and will pass by Buckingham Palace, her home for much of her long life, for one final time. At Wellington Arch it will be transferred to a hearse from the gun carriage. It will then be driven to Windsor and along the Long Walk to St. George’s Chapel for a Service of Committal.

Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8th 2022 at Balmoral. She was 96 years old and had reigned for 70 years.
