Operation Unicorn is now underway as The Queen dies in Scotland

Her Majesty The Queen has died at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, and Operation Unicorn is now underway.

Operation Unicorn was organised if The Queen was to die in Scotland, which, sadly, has now taken place.

Immediate business in the Scottish Parliament has been suspended to prepare for the state funeral.

A 10-day mourning period will now be underway.

Her body will be transferred to London via a train at Royal Train at Waverley Station.

Buckingham Palace announced on the evening of 8 September:

“The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.

“The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”
