The Queen’s annual Christmas visit to Sandringham is cancelled

The Queen’s annual Christmas visit to the Sandringham Estate has been cancelled following a sharp spike in Covid-19 infection rates across the UK.

A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said the 95-year-old monarch has decided to celebrate Christmas at Windsor instead meaning her annual pilgrimage to Norfolk will not occur.

The spokesperson added that The Queen’s decision is a personal one that was made after careful consideration, which reflects a precautionary approach.

Members of The Royal Family will visit Her Majesty at Windsor in a way that follows the current guidelines.

It is understood that The Queen will not make a public appearance on Christmas Day and will instead worship privately inside the castle.

A few days ago, it was revealed that Her Majesty had been forced to cancel her traditional pre-Christmas dinner that she was due to hold at Windsor Castle for members of her extended family.

Her Majesty has always been careful to lead by example, and although there are currently no restrictions in place to prevent her travelling to Sandringham, a precautionary approach has been taken.

As was the case in 2020, The Queen will not be making a public appearance at Church on Christmas Day so as not to encourage crowds to gather in an attempt to get a glimpse of the monarch.
