Queen Camilla’s Reading Room donates books to Liverpool library following riots

The Queen’s Reading Room has gifted books to the Spellow Library in Liverpool as the organisation is beginning to rebuild.

The Spellow Library Hub was set on fire on 3 August during riots in Liverpool. The popular library was a busy community gathering place and supported many different groups.

The Queen’s Reading Room, Queen Camilla’s online book club that promotes community and literacy, has shared on social media that they have donated many of the books that have been featured on previous seasons of the book club.

On Wednesday, 21 August, TQRR shared, ”Today, we celebrate the unique and beautiful power of books to bring us together.

It has brought us an immense amount of joy these past days to see authors from all around the UK donating books to rebuild Liverpool’s Spellow Library Hub after its recent destruction. Last week, The Queen gifted some of the titles we have loved reading together in this book club. From Hilary Mantel to Min Jin Lee, from Charlie Mackesy to Edna O’Brien, these books have peopled our imaginations, challenged us, uplifted us and filled our hearts with joy.

We hope that one day soon the local community will be able to come together again and experience that special magic bursting from books among library shelves.

A community-led fundraiser has raised over £250,000 to rebuild the library.
