Princess Anne returns to Scotland and thanks mourners for “out of this world” tributes

During King Charles and Queen Camilla’s day of rest, as it has been called, the remaining working members of the Royal Family stepped up their public presence to thank the nation.

In particular, Princess Anne flew back to Scotland, where she met members of the public in Glasgow.

Her Royal Highness thanked them for the condolence messages and floral tributes that, in her words, are “really and truly out of this world.”

During the walkabout, the late Queen’s only daughter was seen chatting with many people, including some children. A little girl managed to share that she had written a letter to Queen Elizabeth II during her Platinum Jubilee celebrations, to which the Princess replied, “Glad you got the chance to do that.”

To other people, she was heard saying that she had been made to feel “very welcome” by the outpouring of love and support she and her family have received this past week.

The flowers and tributes for the late Queen Elizabeth II have been gathering in specific and symbolic places all around the country. In Glasgow, they have been amassed in front of Glasgow City’s Chambers in a sea of sweet-smelling homages.

Princess Anne only left Scotland on Tuesday, when she flew from Edinburgh to London to accompany her mother’s body back to the capital, after it had been lying-in-state at St Giles’ Cathedral, in the Scottish city that was also the title of her late husband.

She has now flown back north to mourn with the public and to acknowledge the people of Scotland for the outpouring of love and affection that they have demonstrated in this past week, not just with the tributes but also by organising a vigil that saw more than 26,000 people pay their respects in less than 24 hours.

Her Royal Highness is expected back in London on 16 September, where it has been confirmed that she will hold a vigil for her mother together with her three brothers at 7:30 pm London time in Westminster Hall.
