Prince George will soon be inheriting his father, Prince William’s, half-size V8 Volante Aston Martin, just as soon as he is old enough to drive it.
Prince William and his younger brother, Prince Harry were gifted the car in 1988 but the car has been sat in the Sandringham Museum on The Queen’s estate in Norfolk for some time.
According to The Sunday Express, Prince William has now removed the car from the museum to have in renovated for his son.
Driving is nothing new to Prince George who is said to be “obsessed” with vehicles and rides around on his £100 toy tractor at his home, Anmer Hall. In a recent interview, Prince Harry even brought up the famous tractor saying how he loves to hear his nephew playing outside on it.
Prince William was six and Harry was four when they both drove it, so it won’t be much longer until two-and-a-half year-old George will be zipping around James Bond style in the British-made Aston Martin at speeds up to 20mph.
The Earl and Countess of Wessex’s eight-year-old son James, Viscount Severn spent time over the Christmas holidays testing out the car. A source at Sandringham told the Express that: “He was racing round the paths and having a wonderful time,
“You can hear the car before you see it because it’s quite noisy.
“James was loving every minute of it but it’s common knowledge that Prince William has got it running again so that George can have it.
“The car has been in the Sandringham museum for many years after William and Harry outgrew it but it’s always belonged to them so there was nothing to stop them using it again.
“Everyone is looking forward to seeing George drive it. I should think he’ll be in the car within a year.”
The pint-sized Aston was one of only 25 built and presented to Prince Charles as a gift for his boys. The car is finished in Balmoral green, has tan leather seats and a green Wilton carpet. A 160cc Honda engine with automatic gearbox powers the car, complete with working headlights and a radio.
Her Majesty and Princess Margaret both has a battery-powered Citroen in their youth and Charles received an Austin pedal car at the age of two.
Prince Andrew also had a toy Aston DB5 with 007 number plates that was put on show at Buckingham Palace in 2014 as part of a Royal Childhood exhibition.
