The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will undertake an official visit to the Western Balkans later this year, Clarence House has announced. Their Royal Highnesses are set to tour Croatia, Kosovo, Montenegro and Serbia in March. While the Prince has visited the Western Balkans eight times before, primarily during the 1990s, this will be the Duchess’s first official visit to these countries.
The Prince of Wales paid his first visit to the region in October 1978, when he went to Croatia, Montenegro, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Over the next 30 years, he made a number of trips to Balkan countries, stopping at each of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina on three separate occasions. Prince Charles and Camilla first toured Bosnia and Herzegovina as a couple in March 2007 – it was Her Royal Highness’s first visit to the Western Balkans.
Although the complete itinerary of the visit is yet to be released, the Royal couple are expected to stay in the region for up to 10 days.
With the announcement of Prince Charles and Camilla’s upcoming tour, this Spring is proving to be quite a busy time for the British Royal Family. In addition to celebrating Her Majesty The Queen’s 90th birthday this April, both The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry will be undertaking official visits of their own – William and Catherine to India and Bhutan, and Harry to Nepal. The dates of the younger Royals’ visits have not been confirmed yet, but it appears that the two visits to Southern Asia will coincide with each other.
