Prince Charles says of Prince Philip ‘when you get to that age things don’t work so well’

The Prince of Wales spoke of his father’s condition during a visit to the flood-hit communities in South Yorkshire yesterday. The Duke of Edinburgh has now spent four nights in King Edward VII’s Hospital in London for what Buckingham Palace has described as a “pre-existing condition.”

He replied to a question from a reporter about Prince Philip, “He’s being looked after very well in hospital. At the moment that’s all we know.” When one of the local women later asked, he replied, “Alright. When you get to that age things don’t work so well.”

Her Majesty The Queen went to Sandringham as planned on Friday for her traditional break. On Sunday, she attended church and was accompanied by the Earl and Countess of Wessex along with their children, Lady Louise Windsor, and Viscount Severn who recently celebrated his 12th birthday.

A Buckingham Palace statement on Friday said: “The Duke of Edinburgh travelled from Norfolk this morning to the King Edward VII Hospital in London for observation and treatment in relation to a pre-existing condition. The admission is a precautionary measure, on the advice of His Royal Highness’s doctor.”

There have been no official updates on Prince Philip’s health since he was admitted to hospital on Friday.
