Norfolk Police have released a new statement confirming that investigations are continuing into the crash near the Sandringham Estate on Thursday which saw the Duke of Edinburgh’s Land Rover collide with a Kia.
The driver of the Kia, a 28-year-old woman, suffered cuts to her knee while the passenger, a 45-year-old woman, sustained a broken wrist.
Both women were treated at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn and were discharged later that night.
Police also confirmed that a nine-month-old baby boy was in the Kia but was uninjured.
Prince Philip was also uninjured and is currently resting at Sandringham House alongside The Queen.
Both the Duke of Edinburgh and driver of the Kia were breathalysed, with both readings coming back as negative.
The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon near the Sandringham Estate.
Prince Philip’s Land Rover, which he was driving, rolled over onto its side due to the impact.
Police statement in full:
“Investigations will continue today into a collision which happened at Sandringham yesterday (Thursday 17 January 2019) afternoon.
“Officers were called to the A149 shortly before 3pm after two cars, a Landrover and a Kia, were involved in a collision at the junction of the B1439.
“The driver of the Kia, a 28-year-old woman, suffered cuts to her knee while the passenger, a 45-year-old woman, sustained a broken wrist. Both casualties were treated at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn and were discharged last night.
“Police can also confirm a nine-month-old baby boy was in the Kia at the time of the incident and was uninjured.
“The male driver of the Landrover was uninjured.
“Both drivers were breath tested and provided negative readings
“As is standard procedure with injury collisions, the incident will be investigated and any appropriate action taken.
“We are aware of the public interest in this case, however, as with any other investigation it would be inappropriate to speculate on the causes of the collision until an investigation is carried out.”
