Buckingham Palace reveals that the Duke of Edinburgh visited hospital this morning

Buckingham Palace has revealed that the Duke of Edinburgh was admitted to hospital this morning as a precautionary measure.

His visit to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital was for a check-up following his car crash on Thursday.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: “On Doctor’s advice, The Duke of Edinburgh visited the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn this morning for a precautionary check-up.

“This confirmed His Royal Highness had no injuries of concern. The Duke has returned to Sandringham.”

On Thursday evening, the palace said the 97-year-old was uninjured in the incident.

However, tonight’s statement reveals that Prince Philip was hurt, but these injuries are not concerning.

The Duke’s Landrover collided with a Kia just outside of the Sandringham Estate on Thursday afternoon.

Such was the impact of the crash, the 97-year-old’s car overturned in the road.

The driver of the Kia, a 28-year-old woman, suffered cuts to her knee while the passenger, a 45-year-old woman, sustained a broken wrist.

Both women were treated at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn and were discharged later that night.

Police also confirmed that a nine-month-old baby boy was in the Kia but was uninjured.

Prince Philip is currently resting at Sandringham House alongside The Queen.

Both the Duke of Edinburgh and driver of the Kia were breathalysed, with both readings coming back as negative.
