Prince Philip

The Duke of Edinburgh involved in road traffic accident

The Duke of Edinburgh has been involved in a road traffic accident near the grounds of the Sandringham Estate.

Prince Philip pulled out of a private driveway on Thursday afternoon when he collided with a Kia carrying two women and a baby.

The Duke of Edinburgh and the baby boy were uninjured. The two women were hospitalised with minor injuries and were discharged the same day.

Eyewitness Roy Warne said: “[Philip] stood up and was unharmed but was obviously very shocked.

“He was disorientated and humbled. I believe he was very sorry about what had happened. The sun was very low in the sky. Considering his age he got off much better than the people in the other car.”

Following the collision, Prince Philip and the driver of the Kia were both breathalysed by police. Both tests came back as negative.

The incident occurred at around 3pm on Thursday near the grounds of the Sandringham Estate.

A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said that the Duke was not injured and police attended the scene.

Eyewitnesses say they saw the Duke walk from the accident into another car badly shaken.

He was seen by a doctor at Sandringham and has not been admitted to hospital.
