Over one million trees now planted for The Queen’s Green Canopy

The Queen and the Prince of Wales plant a tree at Balmoral for the Jubilee

The Queen’s Green Canopy has now seen over one million trees planted as the celebration for the Platinum Jubilee continues.

As planting season came to an end, on March 31st 2022, The Queen issued a message of thanks to all those who have rooted a tree for her special celebrations.

Among those rooting a tree on the final day of the season was the Prime Minister. Boris Johnson was joined by children from Sholing Junior School in Southampton to plant in the gardens of 10 Downing Street.

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, planted a tree at Gascoigne Primary School in Barking as the final hours of the season unfolded.

Planting season began in October with The Queen and the Prince of Wales dedicating at tree on the Balmoral Estate. Since then, hundreds of thousands of schools, community groups and organisations as well as individuals have planted a tree for the Jubilee leading to over a million new plants taking root.

As planting season came to an end, The Queen issued a message of thanks, saying ”As the planting season draws to a close, I send my sincere thanks to everyone across the country who has planted a tree to celebrate my Platinum Jubilee. I am deeply touched that so many community groups, schools, families and individuals have made their own unique contributions to the Green Canopy initiative.

I hope your Jubilee trees flourish and grow for many years to come, for future generations to enjoy.”
