King Charles III

The King recruiting staff to look after his horses and foals at Sandringham

The King is recruiting a number of seasonal staff to work at The Royal Stud in Sandringham.

The role would see successful applicants working during the breeding season from January through to the end of May.

As part of the duties, the candidates would need to look after the mares and foals, and complete stable duties such as cleaning and feeding.

The job advertisement says that experience in a similar role ‘would be advantageous’ but is not essential.

The deadline to apply for the role is Wednesday 4th January 2023, with ‘competitive pay’ being promised.

Located at the heart of the Sandringham Estate, The Royal Stud was one of the late Queen Elizabeth’s pride and joys.

For many decades, she bred some of the world’s finest racehorses here, many of whom have gone on to compete at the highest level of the sport.

Following on from her death in September, The King inherited The Royal Stud and all of his mother’s horses.

Among the current residents at the Royal Stud is the late Queen’s 2013 Ascot Gold Cup winner, Estimate, who has since taken up broodmare duties.

Queen Elizabeth took great pride in her racehorses and breeding operation.

Each year, a number of foals are delivered at the facility, many of which go on to race in the sovereign’s colours.

The late Queen is known to have have cameras installed in each of the stables so she could watch her foals being delivered live via her iPad.
