Prince Charles addresses sustainability in short film

Prince Charles talks about the environment at Birkhall

The Prince of Wales, who is well known for his efforts to combat the climate crisis, is championing sustainability in a short film.

The film, made by the organisation ‘Campaign for Wool’, communicates the benefits of using wool in an effort to reduce plastic waste and help create a more sustainable future. The Prince is patron of the organisation, which was launched in 2010. The campaign has influenced a new demand for wool on an international scale and has helped farmers receive higher prices for their wool.

The Prince talks at length in the film about the usefulness of wool and how it can further protect the planet. In one part, the Prince compares a ‘linear system to a circular one’ and goes on to note: “Of the utmost importance that we educate and inform the next generation of makers and consumers of the global health benefits of using natural and sustainable resources, including wool, which, as a longevity fibre is then followed by its natural return to the soil.”

This is not the first time His Royal Highness has spoken on camera about a more sustainable future. In an interview with BBC last year, he said the following: “It has taken too long for the world to wake up to the risks of climate change’ and revealed how he ‘sympathises’ with ‘climate activists’ anger.”

Other members of the Royal Family have also been vocal about tackling environmental issues. Last year, the Duke of Cambridge launched The Earthshot Prize – an award given to five individuals for their contributions to environmentalism. Each winner receives a grant of £1 million, so they can further continue their environmental work. Also recent is the launching of The Queen’s Green Canopy, which is a Platinum Jubilee initiative to help preserve the UK’s ancient woodlands.

The short film is available to watch on YouTube.
