King Charles has sent a message to Canadians following wildfires blazing through the western part of the country, conveying his “deepest sympathy for all those whose lives and livelihoods have been affected.”
In a letter shared by Canada’s Governor General, King Charles writes that he and Quen Camilla “are immensely saddened to see the significant damage that has occurred in Jasper—a truly magical place, whose rugged and romantic beauty has captivated Canadians and travellers from around the world.”
Speaking directly to those affected in Alberta, the King writes, “these are dark times, but we greatly admire the strength and resilience of so many people to persevere and rebuild.”
He continues: “It is often the most difficult times that bring people and communities closest together. As always, my heartfelt thanks goes to the dedicated first responders…who, through their actions and commitment, remind us all of the dedication that lies in public service.”
The King then commends all Canadians who have been helping those affected by the wildfires, writing that “From our experience that has always been the Canadian way.”
The wildfires in Jasper have been the worst in the area in over 100 years, with Parks Canada estimating that 30 per cent of structures have been damaged.
In a statement on their website, Parks Canada shared that “We’re all working towards the same goal. Parks Canada, the Municipality of Jasper, and all responding agencies truly appreciate the immense encouragement and support shown by members of the community.”
