King Charles launches ambitious Commonwealth scholarships

The King has made a large personal donation to help launch a new scholarship programme for students in the Commonwealth.

The King’s Commonwealth Fellowship Programme is a new group of scholarships that will be delivered by the Association of Commonwealth Universities.

The scholarships target three groups in Commonwealth Small Island Developing States (known as SIDS): undergraduate students, doctoral students, and mid-career professionals. The programme will support those working to make short, medium, and long term differences in their communities.

The KCFP has three main aims: to strengthen climate resilience, to build capacity in education, health and engineering, and to develop resilient public services and the skills of those who support them.

Throughout his adult life, His Majesty has supported several different organisations and groups that help develop skills and provide education for local communities to use, such as The King’s Trust.

King Charles shared his excitement about the project and the difference that it could make for SIDS. His Majesty said ”throughout my life I have believed in the power of education to improve lives and unite communities across the Commonwealth and beyond. There is so much we can learn from one another as we work together within the Commonwealth to tackle the major challenges of our age and, as these Fellowships do in Small Island Developing States, to address them where they are felt most acutely.
