Charles and Camilla in poignant visit to the Rock of Cashel, following in The Queen and Prince Philip’s footsteps

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall paid a visit to one of Ireland’s most spectacular architectural landmarks on Friday – the Rock of Cashel.

On the second and final day of their visit to Ireland, the couple traveled to Tipperary’s most famous location during a poignant visit which mirrored a similar engagement carried out by The Queen and Prince Philip back in 2011.

Upon arrival at the castle, the couple were greeted by a welcoming party, before heading inside the ancient building.

Charles and Camilla enjoyed learning about the history of Cashel on their tour.

Originally the seat of the Kings of Munster, according to legend St Patrick himself came to the Rock of Cashel to convert King Aenghus to Christianity.

Brian Boru was crowned High King at Cashel in 978 and made it his capital.

In 1101, the site was granted to the church, and Cashel swiftly rose to prominence as one of the most significant centres of ecclesiastical power in the country.

Elaine Moriarty, Site Manager, greeted Charles and Camilla at the site, as she did with The Queen and Prince Philip in 2011.
