Charles and Camilla offer prayers for Ukraine

Amid the ongoing crisis in Ukraine, the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall are offering their prayers for those in Ukraine.

The Prince and Duchess showed support to members of the Ukrainian community during a visit to the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of the Holy Family in London. While at the cathedral, the royals stood alongside Ukrainian Ambassador Vadym Prystaiko. They also met with leaders and volunteers in the Ukrainian community and members of Prince Charles’ charities who are working to help the humanitarian effort.

During the appearance, the Prince said: “Our thoughts and prayers, however inadequate they may be, are with all of you at this most critical of times.”

Their Royal Highnesses heard a song performed by children before they lit a candle and laid sunflowers at the alter inside. Sunflowers are the national flower of Ukraine. Earlier in the week, the Prince denounced Russia’s attack in a speech during a visit to Southend-on-Sea for its City Day.

He touched on the murder of Sir David Amess, a Member of Parliament who was killed in a terrorist attack in October 2021. He described it as an “attack on democracy” before touching on the ongoing tragedy in Europe: “What we saw in the terrible tragedy in Southend was an attack on democracy, on an open society, on freedom itself.

“We are seeing those same values under attack today in Ukraine in the most unconscionable way. In the stand we take here, we are in solidarity with all those who are resisting brutal aggression.”

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked the Royal Family for voicing their support in a tweet. Other members of the Royal Family who have released statements of support include the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
