King Charles III celebrates ”warm friendship” with St. Patrick’s Day message

King Charles III has sent a special message to the President of Ireland to mark St. Patrick’s Day.

King Charles wrote to President Michael D. Higgins to express his ”warmest congratulations” on the day.

In his message, His Majesty said ”St. Patrick’s Day has global resonance, not least across the United Kingdom, which speaks to the warm friendship and strong partnership between our countries.”

King Charles added ”our bilateral partnership could not be more important, in particular as we together mark the twenty fifth anniversary of the Belfast (Good Friday) Agreement, and welcome the peace, progress and prosperity that is has brought, not just to Northern Ireland, but across our islands.”

Recalling his many visits, The King continued ”my wife and I have the fondest memories of visits to Ireland over the years, most recently in Waterford and Tipperary last year. We both look forward to visiting your wonderful country again.”

The message was signed ‘Charles R.’

St. Patrick’s Day in 2023 will also see the Princess of Wales hand out shamrocks to the Irish Guards for the first time since becoming their Colonel.
