King Charles arrives at Chelsea Flower Show for first time since becoming RHS patron

The King, brand new patron of the Royal Horticultural Society, has arrived at the Chelsea show for the first time since taking on the role.

King Charles announced earlier this month that he would become the RHS patron.

The role has huge significance for His Majesty for a number of reasons. The last person to hold the role was his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

The King is also well known for his passion for nature and gardening. His devotion to the environment was recognised in 2009 with the presentation of the RHS Victoria Medal, the society’s highest award.

This visit also comes as His Majesty continues to expand the number of public engagements he is taking on as he is treated for cancer. The King was diagnosed earlier this year following a planned operation. King Charles was confined to private engagements for a number of months as he began treatment but is now able to get out and about again.

Queen Camilla is with The King as this visit to the RHS Chelsea Flower Show gets under way. The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester are also attending.

The Flower Show opens to the public on May 21 and runs until May 25 2024.
