The Duke of Kent shows no signs of slowing down as he advertises for a new Private Secretary

The Duke of Kent is showing no signs of slowing down as he advertises for a new Private Secretary to begin working for him in 2019.

The 82-year-old royal is looking for somebody to manage his household and to accompany him on engagements both in the UK and abroad.

The successful candidate will be part of a small team at St James’s Palace and will integral in helping both the Duke and Duchess of Kent in delivering their official programme.

In addition, the Private Secretary will be in charge of managing Prince Edward’s diary and correspondence.

The new Private Secretary will begin working for the Duke in late December 2018 ready for a busy royal year in 2019.

In 2017, The Queen’s cousin conducted a total of 160 engagements – just 11 less than the Duke of Cambridge despite turning 82 years old.

This included 14 engagements overseas and 146 engagements in the UK according to royal archivist Tim O’Donovan.

The advert on the Royal Family’s website reads: “You will have experience at a senior level, with the leadership skills necessary to head up the Household. In addition you will be team-orientated in approach, with the willingness and flexibility to undertake routine and detail-focused tasks.

“Possessing a good general knowledge of current affairs, both nationally and internationally, you will be a trusted adviser, and will have a well-developed understanding of the UK’s constitution and political, economic and geographical infrastructure.

“Strong cultural sensitivity, diplomacy and excellent judgement will be key to this role. Alongside exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, you will have credibility at a senior level, both internally and externally.

“With excellent drafting and presentation skills you have the ability to absorb a large volume of information, and communicate complex issues succinctly through a variety of mediums.”
