Prince Michael of Kent and Crown Prince Leka of Albania attend events in Budapest

Royals from three nations were gathered in Budapest this week. Prince Michael of Kent was joined by Crown Prince Leka of Albania and Prince Fahad Al-Thani of Qatar at a dinner to strengthen international relations.

During the visit to Hungary at the invitation of the Hungarian parliament, Prince Michael of Kent held meetings with Crown Prince Leka, Prince Fahad Al-Thani and other politicians from Hungary and Europe. The day of meetings was concluded with a gala dinner in the Hungarian parliament to strengthen European relations. The event comes as an end to a period in which Hungary has hosted a significant conference to shed light on links between Eastern European and Balkan nations.

Before dinner, close to 200 guests were given a short guided tour of the spectacular building. The Hungarian Parliament Building is the seat of Hungary’s National Assembly; as the largest building in Hungary since its completion, it serves as a notable landmark and a popular tourist destination.

Prince Michael speaks fluent Russian and has a strong interest in Russia and Eastern Europe: He is a well-known figure in the eastern European nations, especially Russia. Tsar Nicholas II was a first cousin of three of his grandparents King George V, Prince Nicholas of Greece and Denmark, and Grand Duchess Elena Vladimirovna of Russia.

Prince Michael’s wife, Princess Michael of Kent, has German, Austrian and Hungarian roots. She is the daughter of Baron Gunther von Reibnitz, a Silesian nobleman and the Hungarian Marie Anna, Countess von Szapary. As such, both Prince Michael and Princess Michael of Kent have strong ties to Hungary.
