Jubilee goers start to camp out in London for best spots as the Platinum celebrations approach

Buckingham Palace

People are already camping out on the streets near Buckingham Palace to secure the best spots to see the big events of the Platinum Jubilee when the celebrations get under way.

The most eager Jubilee goers were in place over forty eight hours before the first set piece moment of the festivities, Trooping the Colour.

Tents were pitched at vantage spots along the Mall by those determined to get the best view of the spectacular show.

Even unseasonably chilly temperatures and torrential downpours of rain didn’t deter those hoping to be at the front of the crowds for the spectacle.

The Royal Family will attend Trooping the Colour on the morning of June 2 with The Queen expected to take a salute from the Buckingham Palace balcony as the military parade back from Horse Guards. The salute during the ceremony will be taken by the Prince of Wales, the Duke of Cambridge and the Princess Royal.

Following the parade, the Royal Family will appear on the balcony of Buckingham Palace, one of the most highly anticipated moments of the Jubilee celebrations. The Queen will be joined by working members of the family along with the children of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Earl and Countess of Wessex.

Hundreds of thousands are expected to come to central London to see the Jubilee celebrations. With Trooping the Colour starting in the morning, an early rush on public transport is expected as crowds gather to join the festivities.

On the evening of June 2 2022, the Royal Family will return to the Mall for the lighting of the Jubilee beacon.

Crowds are expected around the Mall throughout the four day weekend with another balcony appearance, by The Queen and her three direct heirs, reported to be the final act of the Jubilee on June 5 2022.
