Hope at the heart of The Queen’s message on eve of Platinum Jubilee

The Queen has released a message on the eve of her historic Platinum Jubilee celebrations, writing of hope and goodwill in the 70 years of her reign and that she knows “many happy memories will be created at these festive occasions.”

The Queen said: “Thank you to everyone who has been involved in convening communities, families, neighbours and friends to mark my Platinum Jubilee, in the United Kingdom and across the Commonwealth. I know that many happy memories will be created at these festive occasions.

“I continue to be inspired by the goodwill shown to me, and hope that the coming days will provide an opportunity to reflect on all that has been achieved during the last seventy years, as we look to the future with confidence and enthusiasm.

“ELIZABETH R.”

This Platinum Jubilee message echoes the earlier message from The Queen, released on Accession Day—6 February—where she wrote of how thankful she is for the “extraordinary progress socially, technologically and culturally that have benefitted us all” and how she is confident that “the future will offer similar opportunities to us and especially to the younger generations in the United Kingdom and throughout the Commonwealth.”

The Queen’s message comes the night before her four-day Platinum Jubilee celebrations are to begin. On June 2, The Queen will attend Trooping the Colour with the Royal Family. It is the first time that The Queen’s official birthday celebrations have taken place on a large-scale and in London since before the pandemic began.

That evening, The Queen will start the lighting of the Platinum Jubilee beacon on The Mall from Windsor Castle, with her grandson Prince William taking part in a dual ceremony in London at the beacon, the Tree of Trees.

From there, the Platinum Jubilee celebrations continue with a Service of Thanksgiving, the Epsom Derby, the Platinum Party at the Palace, the Big Lunch, and the Platinum Jubilee Pageant. The Cambridges will also visit Wales this weekend; Princess Anne will visit Scotland; and Edward and Sophie will visit Northern Ireland.

Royal Central will bring you full coverage of the Platinum Jubilee throughout the weekend.
