His Majesty will rule as King Charles III

The office of The King has confirmed that His Majesty will rule as Charles III.

The Prime Minister had earlier referred to The King as Charles III, appearing to confirm the regnal name of the new Monarch.

In a brief statement outside 10 Downing Street, just two days after she was appointed Prime Minister by Her Majesty, Liz Truss paid tribute to The Queen and urged everyone to show support for the new Monarch, King Charles III.

There had been some debate as to whether The King would use his given name to rule. He had previously been said to prefer the name of George VII, in tribute to his grandfather, King George VI.

However, just after 7.20 on the first evening of his reign it was confirmed that he will rule as Charles III.

The Queen died on September 8th 2022 at Balmoral. She reigned for 70 years.
