Great-grandchildren of monarchs: Elizabeth II

Grandchildren and great-grandchildren hold a special place in the hearts of their grandparents, and royals are no exception. While Royal Central has taken a look at the grandchildren of monarchs across the globe, we are now looking at the great-grandchildren of Queen Elizabeth II.

Born on 22 July 2013, Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge is the first child of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge; he is the first grandchild of the Prince of Wales and the late Diana, Princess of Wales. Prince George is third in line to the British throne behind his grandfather and father and is expected to one day ascend the throne. He was The Queen’s third great-grandchild and her first great-grandson.

Princess Charlotte

The only daughter and second child of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana of Cambridge (b. 2 May 2015) is fourth in the line of succession. She was named after The Queen as her parents gave her the middle name Elizabeth in honour of Her Majesty. Princess Charlotte is expected to one day become the Princess Royal. Charlotte is the fifth great-grandchild and fourth great-granddaughter of The Queen.

Prince Louis Arthur Charles of Cambridge was born on 23 April 2018 to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and is fifth in the line of succession. Louis is the sixth great-grandchild for The Queen and only her second great-grandson.

Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor is the first child of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the third great-grandson of The Queen. Ranked seventh in the British line of succession, he is the closest American to the throne; he holds dual American-British citizenship through his mother, American-born Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex. He was born on 6 May 2019 in the United Kingdom.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expecting a daughter this summer; the baby will be born in the United States. She will be the second granddaughter for The Prince of Wales and the 11th great-grandchild for The Queen.

Savannah Phillips

Born on 29 December 2010, Savannah Anne Kathleen Phillips was born to Peter and Canadian-born Autumn Phillips as the first grandchild of the Princess Royal and the first great-grandchild for The Queen. She is currently 17th in the line of succession.

Isla Phillips

Ranked 18th in the line of succession, Isla Elizabeth Phillips is the second great-grandchild for The Queen. Born on 29 March 2012, she and her older sister are the closest Canadians to the British throne.

The first child of Mike and Zara Tindall, Mia Grace Tindall was born on 17 January 2014 and is the fourth great-grandchild for Queen Elizabeth II. Mia is 20th in the line of succession.

Lena Tindall

Born on 18 June 2018, Lena Elizabeth Tindall is the second child of Mike and Zara and is ranked 21st in the line of succession. She was The Queen’s seventh great-grandchild.

Lucas Tindall

No official photos have been released of Lucas Philip Tindall, the only son and third child of Zara and Mike Tindall; he is the only grandson of the Princess Royal and youngest great-grandchild of The Queen. He was born on 21 March 2021 and ranks 22nd in the line of succession.

Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank welcomed their first child, August Philip Hawke Brooksbank, on 9 February 2021. He is the first grandchild of the Duke of York and Sarah, Duchess of York; he is 11th in line to the throne. August is the ninth great-grandchild of Her Majesty.
