The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge

With the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge set to attend the Royal Variety Performance this year on 18 November, today we’re looking back at their past attendance.

William and Kate have attended twice before, in 2014 and 2017. The senior royals: The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall; William and Kate; and The Duke and Duchess of Sussex rotate their attendance each year.

The Performance was hosted by comedian Michael McIntyre, whose comedy bit at the beginning of the show included jokes about the royals entering to fanfare trumpets.

The performers included Bette Midler, Dame Shirley Bassy, One Direction, Demi Lovato, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Trevor Noah, Ed Sheeran, and Simply Red, among others.

The Performance was hosted by comedian Miranda Hart, who memorably got William to participate in a bit where he galloped like a pony.

Performers included James Blunt, Paloma Faith, Kelsey Grammer, The Killers, Amber Riley, Louis Tomlinson, and the casts of 42nd Street, Annie, and Miranda.
