Further details of The Queen’s lying in state and funeral to be revealed

The King is due to meet the Prime Minister and the Earl Marshal in the coming hours as preparations for the funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II begin.

Gun salutes will be fired in London to mark the death of The Queen. Salutes of 96 rounds will be fired, one for each year of Her Majesty’s life.

A state of mourning has now been declared in the UK. Further details of how long it will last will be given on September 9th as preparations begin for a lying in state and a State Funeral.

King Charles III will meet the Earl Marshal who will oversee arrangements for the funeral, most probably on September 9th when His Majesty returns to London with Queen Camilla.

The King will also address the nation the same evening a pre-recorded message.

Her Majesty The Queen is expected to lie in state at Westminster Hall with hundreds of thousands of people projected to walk past her coffin to pay their last respects.

Church bells will toll at noon for Her Majesty while special prayers are being said around the country.

The House of Commons will sit on September 9th for tributes to be made to The Queen. The Accession Council takes place on September 10th with the formal proclamation of His Majesty King Charles III’s reign being made at Friary Court at St. James’ Palace afterwards. The Commons will sit again later that same day so MPs can swear allegiance to the new King.

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8th 2022 at Balmoral. She was 96 and had reigned for 70 years.
