Churches and cathedrals across England will toll their bells for an hour to mark the death of Her Majesty The Queen.
Special prayers will also be said at congregations around the country as people come together to remember Elizabeth II.
The Central Council of Church Bell Ringers has recommended that bells toll for one hour from noon on September 9th 2022 in honour of Her Majesty. The death of the Sovereign requires the use of muffled bells.
The Archbishop of Canterbury has led tributes to Her Majesty from the Church of England. Justin Welby said ”“As deep as our grief runs, even deeper is our gratitude for Her Late Majesty’s extraordinary dedication to the United Kingdom, her Realms and the Commonwealth. Through times of war and hardship, through seasons of upheaval and change, and through moments of joy and celebration, we have been sustained by Her Late Majesty’s faith in what and who we are called to be.”
The Archbishop of York, Stephen Cottrell said ”Her Majesty leaves a remarkable legacy which not only lives on in this country, but stretches across the Commonwealth and the rest of the world. Her desire to bring people together and use her role to build up communities and wider society has been a cornerstone of her reign.”
Special services will be held in the coming days for Her Majesty and the Church of England is also issuing special prayers and guidance for worship.
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8th 2022 at Balmoral. She was 96 and had reigned for 70 years.
