Full Coronation procession rehearsal goes ahead just hours after security alert

Thousands of military took to the streets of London for a full rehearsal of the Coronation procession, just hours after a security alert at Buckingham Palace.

The Gold State Coach made its way down the Mall, surrounded by troops, in the first full run through of the Coronation Procession ahead of the big day itself.

Earlier, troops had poured into the capital at Waterloo station, stopping late night travellers in their tracks as they marched across the concourse.

The rehearsal got under way just after midnight on May 3rd with only 72 hours to go until the Coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla.

Members of the Army, Navy and RAF were all on parade along with military from around the Commonwealth.

It stayed dry for them as they made their way to Buckingham Palace along a Mall decked with union flags.

The rehearsal took place just hours after a man was arrested at Buckingham Palace on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon. He was detained around 7pm on May 2nd 2023. Suspected shotgun cartridges had been thrown into the grounds of the Palace. A controlled explosion took place as a precaution. King Charles and Queen Camilla were not at the Palace at the time.

The Coronation takes place on May 6th 2023.
