Around May 2018, the internet was positively and humorously aglow with a particular royal pooch. In this photo, the Duchess of Sussex’s prized beagle was spotted hitching a ride with The Queen just shortly prior to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s highly-anticipated nuptials. Despite the fact that the little fellow wasn’t actually invited to the royal wedding, he has his own Cinderella story to share with the world.
The precious beagle first began his journey in America in a shelter in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky. This shelter was known to be a kill shelter versus a no-kill shelter where overcrowded quarters are usually bad news for incoming animals.
Yet in a town near Toronto, Dolores Doherty, a woman with a special place in her heart for beagles, was alerted about the pup and immediately took it upon herself to rescue the creature. And out of the 1,500 beagles she has managed to save since 2010, little did she know that one would be infinitely special to a particular actress living nearby.
After a quick round of internet investigation, Meghan Markle was in contact with Doherty and returned a completely filled application in a whirlwind ten minutes. Immediately impressed by the future Duchess, Doherty invited Markle to meet some dogs. Markle was quickly taken with little Guy and was soon showing the world her good adopting fortune on her former social media accounts.
Now, the pooch is getting his very own spotlight in the form a 48-page children’s book written by Camille March and Michael Brumm. The book is being published by Simon and Schuster and is being illustrated by EG Keller.
According to Simon and Schuster’s website, the book’s summary states, “Like all good stories, Guy the Beagle’s begins lost in the woods of Kentucky. But his fortunes change when he’s rescued by none other than Princess…er, Duchess-to-be Meghan Markle. Practically overnight, Guy goes from wags to riches. But does this backwoods beagle have what it takes to be welcomed into the royal family?”
As hinted to, the book takes young readers on a journey from Guy’s humble backwoods beginnings to a place in the whirlwind of royal life. There is even an indication that the little fellow is tasked with saving The Queen in the attractive yet somewhat fictional tale.
His Royal Dogness, Guy the Beagle: The Rebarkable True Story of Meghan Markle’s Rescue Dog is set to release in print and ebook on 20 November 2018.
