Duchess of Cambridge reveals Princess Charlotte has a ‘passion for horses’

At Tuesday night’s Buckingham Palace reception to celebrate the sporting success Team GB Olympic and Paralympic athletes, the Duchess of Cambridge revealed that, at not quite a year and a half, Princess Charlotte is already displaying a passion for horses.

Triple gold-medallist equestrian Natasha Baker had the opportunity to speak with the Duchess at the event, saying ‘I asked Kate how the children were and she said Charlotte is really enjoying her riding which is great to hear and I said we may see her here on a line-up in 20 years time. She emphasised that Charlotte has this passion about horses and although she doesn’t echo it, she’ll do her best to champion and encourage it.’

Kate also revealed that Prince George is fascinated by fencing and a fan of swimming, news which will be no surprise to keen royal watchers who have seen and read coverage of Kate and George’s regular visits to the Buckingham Palace pool for lessons.

Other senior members of the Royal Family who attended the reception were The Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Duke of Cambridge, Prince Harry, the Duke of York, and Princess Anne and it was clear that their support for the athletes was greatly appreciated.

Baker shared her excitement for the royal recognition, saying ‘What’s so nice is to see so many of the royal family here tonight. It makes you so proud to be British. Only Britain would do all of this for its medal winners.’

Speaking at the event, five times Paralympic champion, Hannah Cockroft MBE said: ‘It was the first time meeting so many royals at once, just to have the whole Royal Family work their way down the line was absolutely phenomenal. The fact that they are so excited about what we’ve done for the country is an honour’.
