A replica of the Gold State Coach in the world is up for auction – with a price tag starting at £30,000.
The copy of the famous royal carriage is one of the star lots in the sale of props from the hit series The Crown. Hundreds of items used in the making of the six series are going under the hammer after filming of the TV show concluded.
The last part of the epic telling of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II was released on Netflix at the end of 2023 and with the final episode aired, the clothes and scenery that helped bring the story to life are now going under the hammer.
Among the pieces up for sale are some of the most famous costumes created for the show. Items made for the recreation of the Coronation of Elizabeth II, including the red velvet Robe of State, form one lot with an estimate from £20,000.
The so called ‘revenge’ dress, worn by Diana, Princess of Wales was also replicated for the programme where it was worn by Elizabeth Debicki who took on the role in the last two seasons and who has just won a Golden Globe for her portrayal. The gown has an estimate starting at £8,000.
Ahead of the sale, it’s one of many items on show in a free exhibition in London hosted by Bonhams who will be selling the lots on February 7th 2024. A total of 150 pieces will go under the hammer live during that auction. Another 300 are being sold online between January 11th and February 8th 2024.
The proceeds of the live auction are going towards the creation of a scholarship at the National Film and Television School.
