Queen Camilla to become registered owner of Queen Elizabeth II’s racehorses

Queen Camilla will officially be named as co-owner of the late Queen Elizabeth II’s racehorses.

Currently, all of the horses are registered in The King’s name.

The Racing Post reports that the registration of ownership will be changed, with King Charles and Queen Camilla becoming co-owners.

When they were Prince of Wales & Duchess of Cornwall, Charles & Camilla owned a number of racehorses in partnership.

The news comes just a couple of weeks after it was announced that Their Majesties had employed the services of a new racehorse trainer.

Ralph Beckett used to train horses for Charles & Camilla prior to them becoming monarch and consort.

Their Majesties have decided to retain his services, with the Andover based trainer being sent four two-year-olds to train ahead of the new flat season.

Queen Camilla has always been a passionate follower of horse racing, so it comes as no surprise that she will share the famous scarlet and purple royal silks.

At the time of her death, Queen Elizabeth used the services of nine trainers: Sir Michael Stoute, John & Thady Gosden, William Haggas, Andrew Balding, Harry & Roger Charlton, Michael Bell, Richard Hughes, Clive Cox and Nicky Henderson.

It is unknown how many of these will continue to train horses for the monarch in the years to come if indeed The King and Queen Consort are planning to scale down their racing operations.

Shortly after her death in September, a Buckingham Palace spokesperson said: “Queen Elizabeth’s great personal interest in horse racing was one of Her Majesty’s lifelong passions and the King is delighted to honour Her legacy.”
