Queen Camilla

A reminder to ”keep calm” for King Charles and Queen Camilla

As their family hit the headlines around the world, King Charles and Queen Camilla got a very British reminder. As they unveiled a plaque to mark a visit to The Kind Cafe, they did it under a sign telling them to ”keep calm – and eat cupcakes.”

King Charles III and Queen Camilla visited the cafe as part of a day of engagements in Harrow focused on getting food to vulnerable communities. They spent time at different organisations and were given a warm welcome by wellwishers who stood in freezing conditions to hand over flowers and chat.

The day began at London’s Community Kitchen which distributes food to around 10,000 people every week from its hub in Harrow. Demand is high at the moment and 60 tonnes of food is given out weekly.

The Community Kitchen relies on volunteers to keep going and King Charles and Queen Camilla met some of them as they heard about the work that goes on to help those at risk of going hungry.

Their Majesties also visited the Cookery School which uses surplus food to provide training for the local community. Its cookery and hospitality courses offer chances to upskill and find employment.

The day ended at the Kind Cafe where they heard about its training and employment programme as well as its own initiatives to fill a menu with dishes made from surplus food. And it was here they got that most British of reminders in a poster on the wall telling everyone to ”keep calm”.

The visit came on December 15th 2022, the day that the second part of the Netflix documentary on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex was released. King Charles III and Queen Camilla later joined the Prince and Princess of Wales as well as Prince George and Princess Charlotte at a carol service, organised by Kate, at Westminster Abbey.
