#RoyalVisitIreland: day one diary for William and Kate

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge touch down in Dublin on Tuesday afternoon at the start of a three day visit to Ireland. Every morning through their tour, Royal Central will bring you a rundown of what to expect from the day ahead. Let’s get busy with the day one diary for #RoyalVisitIreland.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in Ireland, Day One

William and Kate will be given an official welcome at Dublin International Airport by representatives from the Irish government as well as by the British Ambassador to the Republic of Ireland. From there, they will head into the city for a meeting with the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, who will welcome them to his official residence, Áras an Uachtaráin.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge then move on to the Garden of Remembrance at Uachtaráin. It’s dedicated to all those who gave their lives to fight for Irish independence. William and Kate will attend a commemorative ceremony and lay a wreath there.

Later in the afternoon, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will head to Government Buildings in Dublin for a meeting with the Taoiseach. Following the closely fought general election in February, Ireland is still waiting for a new administration to be formed. In the meantime, the outgoing Prime Minister, Fine Gael’s Leo Varadker, retains the role in a caretaker capacity and he’ll be on hand to meet with William and Kate at the end of the first afternoon of their tour.

Day one ends with a reception at the Gravity Bar at the Guinness Warehouse, hosted by the British Ambassador. Guests will include representatives from business, sport, charity and the arts and you can no doubt expect several photos of William and Kate enjoying a pint.

Royal Central will bring you the latest on all these events as Day One of #RoyalVisitIreland gets under way. There are always lots of updates, too, on our Twitter and Instagram accounts.
