Blue is the colour for The Queen ahead of her Platinum Jubilee

In the two appearances leading up to her Platinum Jubilee, The Queen has made a strong sartorial choice and worn blue for both of her outings.

The Queen has worn the rainbow’s worth of colours throughout her reign, specifically choosing to wear bright colours to make it easier for people to spot her. However, for both of these events, she turned to blue.

In pictures released on Friday, Her Majesty wore a turquoise dress while looking at mementoes from her Golden Jubilee in 2002, as well as cards received for her Platinum Jubilee in the Oak Room at Windsor Castle.

Elizabeth wore two aquamarine and diamond clip brooches for the occasion. The pins are particularly special to The Queen, as her father gave them to her for her 18th birthday in 1944.

On Saturday afternoon, she had tea with locals at Sandringham, including members of the Women’s Institute. The Queen chatted with the woman who created the recipe for Coronation chicken in 1953, Angela Wood, as well as other guests.

She wore a light blue Angela Kelly dress that features white floral detailing at the waist and mimics the distinctive look of Wedgewood pottery. Kelly has worked for The Queen since 1994 and, in the last decade, has designed several dresses, coats, and hats for Her Majesty.

In addition to her Angela Kelly dress, The Queen carried a black leather handbag and a wooden walking stick.

For jewellery, she chose a diamond Cartier brooch and her three-strand pearl necklace, another gift from her father. The brooch is said to be a part of the Nizam of Hyderabad tiara that Elizabeth received as a wedding gift and later had dismantled to create a ruby tiara.

It is thought that The Queen’s favourite colour is blue. She frequently chooses vibrant shades of blue, including royal blue.
