Ballot opens for Trooping the Colour as it returns to London in time for the Platinum Jubilee

The ballot for this year’s Trooping the Colour is now open.

The Sovereign’s Birthday Parade takes place on June 2nd 2022 and will also be the first major event of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee weekend.

People wanting to attend have to enter a ballot for the chance to buy tickets. From January 17th 2022, individuals can apply to buy up to four seats for the Trooping. The ballot closes on March 7th 2022 with successful applicants contacted soon afterwards.

Applications must be made via the official site.

That’s also the place to buy tickets for the Major General’s Review, which takes place on May 21st 2022, and the Colonel’s Review on May 28th 2022. The Colonel’s Review is being taken by the Duke of Cambridge who is Colonel of the Irish Guards, the regiment whose colour is being trooped this year.

Applications are expected to be high as this year’s Trooping is not only part of the Platinum Jubilee weekend, it is also the first time the parade has been held in London since the pandemic. In 2020 and 2021, The Queen observed a truncated ceremony at Windsor Castle.

The 1st Battalion, Irish Guards will Troop their Colour through the ranks while there will also be a  musical ‘troop’ performed on parade by the Massed Bands of the Household Division. Over 1200 officers and hundreds of horses will be on parade along with the musicians from the Household Division and the Corps of Drums. The King’s Horse Royal Horse Artillery will also be on parade and will fire a 41 gun salute from Green Park on June 2nd 2022.

Following the Parade, the Royal Family will appear on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

The main Trooping the Colour will also be shown on BBC One on June 2nd.
