King Charles is approaching the six month anniversary of his reign and he’s just added another first to the list of debuts since his accession.
As he headed to the northwest of England for a day of engagements, he chose to travel by rail. It was the first time that His Majesty has travelled on the royal train as King.
This royal first took place at Manchester Victoria Station where the train pulled in on the morning of January 20th 2023. His Majesty stepped out of one of the carriages to be greeted by the Lord-Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, Diane Hawkins, and the Lord Mayor of Greater Manchester, Donna Luddford as well as the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham.
The King went on to carry out a string of engagements in Manchester and Bolton, along with Queen Camilla.
The royal train consists of specially liveried carriages including dining, sleeping and lounge stock. It is used by senior members of the Royal Family to travel around the United Kingdom.
Although Charles III has used it on other occasions, this was his first trip as King. He took the throne on September 8th 2022 on the death of Queen Elizabeth II. He will mark six months as King on February 8th 2023.
