A horse which is co-owned by Zara and Mike Tindall finished in third place at yesterday’s Crabbie’s Grand National at Aintree showing that the huge gamble in entering him paid off.
After finishing seventh in 2014, Monbeg Dude put extra effort in this year to finish the race in third place.
The prize for finishing 3rd place in the Grand National is £105,500, the most money Monbeg Dude has ever won in a race. Considering he only cost the Tindall’s £12,000 at auction, the gamble has certainly paid off.
Mrs Tindall allegedly called her then boyfriend, Mike, an ‘idiot’ for paying that much money for a quarter share in a ‘hopeless’ horse. However, after yesterday’s result, Zara has now most definitely changed her mind!
The total amount of money the horse has won is now just under £262,000, which is a huge achievement for Monbeg Dude, who Zara also helped train.
As the Tindall’s and other joint owners were watching the race, their hands were up in the air with excitement as they knew they were in with a good chance of winning.

Yesterday was Monbeg Dude’s second visit to Aintree after finishing a respectable 7th position in last year’s race.
There is no news yet on whether Monbeg Dude will try and go two places better in next year’s Grand National, but it is very likely that we will see the horse race again at Aintree in 2016.
The world’s most famous horserace was won yesterday by 40/1 shot Many Clouds, ridden by Leighton Aspell, who also won the previous year’s race on Pineau de Re.
Aspell became the first jockey since Brian Fletcher on Red Run 40 years ago to win a Grand National twice in consecutive years.
Saint Are finished in 2nd place and Alvarado was placed in fourth position.
