Zara Tindall has opened up about the heartbreak of suffering two miscarriages alongside her husband, Mike.
Speaking to BBC Breakfast in her first televised interview about her miscarriages, Zara said that the public nature of her loss was one of the hardest things to deal with.
She said: “I think that’s the hardest thing in our situation, is that everyone knew.
“And very much when things like that happen, normally it’s just your family and friends, but unfortunately everyone knew about it.
“Actually, I had so many letters saying ‘I’m so sorry, we’ve been through the same thing’, which was incredible – and thank you to all those people.”
Zara, who gave birth to her second child a couple of months ago, also reflected on the hardship that her husband, Mike, went through during the loss.
She said: Mike’s incredible – and it’s hard for the guys too.
“It’s very different for us because we’re carrying the child, but for guys, I guess it’s kind of that helpless feeling, which must be incredibly high and horrible for them. At the end of the day, they’ve still lost a child too.
“Being helpless is horrible isn’t it.. for anyone. So.. you know, he’s… it’s been a horrible road but, you know, actually now we’ve come out the end of it, hopefully, it makes you a stronger family.”
Zara gave birth to baby Lena three months ago and has since returned to horse riding.
Shortly after her daughter’s birth, Zara spoke to the Sunday Times, revealing that she had suffered a second miscarriage.
This followed her very public miscarriage in 2016 when she and Mike had to announce the loss of their baby only a few weeks after revealing the news that she was pregnant.
