Princess Anne’s Lady-in-Waiting and hairdresser are honoured by The King

Members of The Princess Royal’s household were recognised by The King in the first New Year Honours list of His Majesty’s reign.

As published in the London Gazette, Margaret Hammond, Lady-in-Waiting to Princess Anne, has been promoted to Commander of the Royal Victorian Order.

Ms Hammond was previously made a Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order in 2002 when she was secretary to the Princess.

Her promotion comes after a further 20 years of service to her mistress.

Also honoured by The King is Dawn Murphy, hairdresser to Princess Anne.

Ms Murphy has been awarded a Royal Victorian Medal (Silver) for her many years service to the Royal Household.

Along with the more than 1,000 members of the public who are recognised by His Majesty The King in his New Year Honours list, the monarch also personally recognises a small number of his staff.

These recipients are appointed to the Royal Victorian Order – the only awards where The King can use his sole discretion as to who to appoint.

The Royal Victorian Order was created in April 1896 by Queen Victoria, who wished to formally recognise those who had personally served her.
