Princess Anne expresses surprise at documentary about her attempted kidnapping

The Princess Royal has expressed surprise over a documentary that aired on the television last week detailing her attempted kidnapping in 1974.

During her annual visit to Strathcarron Hospice in Denny, Her Royal Highness met with a number of staff members and residents, including 77-year-old Alan Brett.

Upon meeting the princess, Mr Brett told her that over the weekend, he watched the Channel 4 documentary ‘Princess Anne: The Plot to Kidnap a Royal’.

Princess Anne replied: “Oh, I didn’t know there was one on!”

Strathcarron Hospice, of which Princess Anne is patron, offers expert palliative care to people from Forth Valley, Cumbernauld and Kilsyth.

Her Royal Highness has been a regular visitor for almost 40 years, having first visited the hospice back in 1984.

Ten years prior to this on the 20th March 1974, Princess Anne was returning to Buckingham Palace from a charity event when her car was forced to a stop on The Mall.

It was here where armed assailant Ian Ball attempted to kidnap the princess for a ransom of over £2 million.

He ordered Princess Anne to exit her car to which she famously responded: “Not bloody likely!”
