King Charles will take part in this year’s Commonwealth Day Service despite being under doctor’s orders to avoid public engagements for the time being.
His Majesty won’t be attending the ceremony, at Westminster Abbey, in person. Buckingham Palace has announced that The King will be seen delivering a pre-recorded message during the annual service.
The King is currently confining himself to constitutional engagements behind palace doors as he undergoes treatment for cancer.
In 2023, the first Commonwealth Day since His Majesty became Head, he delivered his message in person at Westminster Abbey. Queen Elizabeth II always issued a written message to mark the occasion.
This year’s Commonwealth service takes the theme of ”One Resilient Common Future: Transforming our Commonwealth”.
Queen Camilla will lead the Royal Family at the Abbey accompanied by the Prince of Wales. The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, the Princess Royal and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester are all expected to be present as well.
The Commonwealth Day service takes place on March 11th 2024.
